Christmas in Australia with Junshinkai Aikido
December 2016 was a very special time for Redlands Aikido as it was the first cultural exchange between Junshinkai Aikido from Matsusaka in Japan, and Redlands Aikido.
The Junshinkai group consisted of Yoshi Sensei, his Wife Hitomi, and 7 additional students from Yoshi Sensei's Dojos in Japan.
The Japanese students were billeted out with members of the Redlands Aikido Club, an lifelong friendships were formed as people from both countries, sometimes with little ability to communicate with each other, became fast friends. Many tears were shed at the airport for the journey home.
Yoshi Sensei taught several sessions in a seminar on the 23rd and 24th of December, followed by a post seminar party on the deck around Clem Sensei's pool. It was great to catch up with friends outside of our normal Aikido circle, who made the effort to come and train with Yoshi Sensei, who is a world renowned teacher of Aikido.
I addition to the Aikido, there were group trips to the Gold Coast, and Lone Pine Sanctuary, as well as one on one time with the Travellers and Host Families. We were fortunate enough to be able to take Yoshi Sensei to a winery, as he is a great lover of Australian Red Wine, and ships Aussie Red back home to serve at the Restaurant that he and Hitomi run from their home.
To the group from Junshinkai Aikido, thank you for coming and spending time with the people from our little club.We hope to see you again, and visit you in Japan next year.
